Headaches in pregnancy.

Headaches can come from a variety of circumstances. In the US, some may try one natural remedy and then reach for a medication. As we’ve seen in the news lately, these medications aren’t recommended in pregnancy. Figuring out why you have a headache is the key to finding the right natural remedy.

Signs of a tension headache: dull, aching pain, like a tight band around your head, scalp, neck, or shoulder tenderness.

Natural Remedy: magnesium, diffuse lavender or peppermint oil, topical arnica, see a chiropractor for an adjustment, try Gelsemium homeopathic to ease stress.

Signs of a migraine: dull ache that grows into throbbing pain, sensitivity to light, noise, and smells, nausea, vomiting, and upset stomach.

Natural Remedy: massage diluted peppermint essential oil on your temples or behind your ears, take turmeric for inflammation, try a migraine cap, try Belladonna or Ignatia homeopathic to ease discomfort.

Signs of dehydration: an ache on either side of your head that is aggravated by physical activity, dizziness, and fatigue.

Natural Remedy: Consider rehydrating with room temperature water with lemon juice, replenish electrolytes with coconut water or an electrolyte powder to be sure you are getting the minerals you need. Note: Avoid artificial sugars, colors, and flavors.

Signs of sleep deprivation headache: a dull ache throughout your head, heaviness or pressure in the forehead or top of your head, fatigue, and irritability.

Natural Remedy: Take a nap, soak in an Epsom salt bath, take magnesium at night which promotes normal sleep cycles.
